This year’s Race of Champions continues to add top drivers to its line-up. BP-Ford’s Mikko Hirvonen, currently the points leader in the FIA World Rally Championship, is the latest to accept an invitation.
Hirvonen was humbled according to a ROC press release:
“It’s a pleasure to be invited to the Race of Champions in Beijing this year. I’ve never competed at the event before, only watched it as a spectator and so it will be interesting to see how it works and to drive the different cars. I’m also looking forward to visiting the famous ‘Bird’s Nest’ Stadium; it looked like a spectacular venue when I watched the Olympics.
Hirvonen joins a stellar cast of drivers already signed up.
Carl Edwards, one of the 2008 American competitors, will probably be questionable for the event after breaking his foot playing frisbee. There have yet to be any American drivers confirmed for the event.
