Todt comes off arrogant, distant

WRC.com interviewed both candidates for the presidency of the FIA this weekend before the penultimate round of the 2009 season.

Jean Todt, the supposed front-runner for the position, was asked why he would make the best president. His response was a little alarming:

You should explain that, not me! I think it’s very difficult to see yourself but it’s quite clear you have to see the profile of the candidate, the history of each candidate and the agenda of the candidate and the team – because you are not electing only one person you are electing a team.

Ari Vatanen, on the other hand, spoke about growing the sport, and even called it a ’sleeping giant’ during the interview. It’s pretty obvious that both men were on hand simply to make an appearance, but at least Vatanen spoke about the bigger picture more than he spoke about himself. It would be a crying shame if he lost the upcoming election.
